Looks like the Blizzard’s Korean Diablo 3 Site jumped the gun when it features four classes for the upcoming RPG, ‘Diablo 3 beating the announcement at Blizzcon’s opening ceromonies. The character class page shows the Barbarian, Witchdoctor, Wizard, and the Monk.

“It’s a class that has its roots in old school fantasy, but we believe you haven’t seen it quite like this before,” said Blizzard’s Chris Metzen during the official unveiling. “I’m very proud to introduce to you, the new Diablo 3, with all of its open-handed, Tiger-strike packed fury, the Monk.”

A cinematic using the Diablo III engine was shown, with a bald-headed, staff-wielding Monk battling a fire-shooting demon. The beareded Monk used its bare hands near the end, finishing off the demon with an open-palmed attack.

Gameplay footage showed the Monk using quick jabs and punches to attack enemies, with several attacks that hit many monsters in quick succession.

Update: Blizzard’s website seems to be down from presumably a large traffic spike.

There is something to be said for the Kiev comment. It’s disconcerting that an ostensibly shaolin/buddhist character class is being portrayed as caucasian. Or if you prefer him as a hindu monk, they could have at least made the brother brown.

It’s not a personal discussion so I’ll only use your lame comment to add that obviously Blizzard puts most of it’s effort in it’s WoW golden egg laying goose rather than in this anticipated sequel- and it shows. No hurry to release the game, no reason to pour money into production.

There is a reason Blizzard has given most of there time to WOW its because we are over 11 million people playing the game and we all pau $15 per month to play it.

How many times can Blizzard rehash the point-and-click-and-watch-things-explode genre before things get old?

I played a monk in D&D for the longest time, I’m super-psyched to try this out.

  7. The monk looks really nice. Nice to see an old Diablo 1 Hellfire Char.
    Maybe rogue is next?! ;)

What do you call a Female monk? A nun?

    says:

This is more of a Indian Monk (only white), rather then Christian- so the female version will be called the same.

It’s sort of like WoW when it comes to Warlock class (Warlock = Male Witch) Blizzard didn’t rename the class to witch when you roll female.

mmm.. I’ll be death when Blizzard finally have finished the game !… why to revealed it so soon?.. the waiting is killing me… and it doesn’t seem to be as great as all we thought…I mean..
If it will be available until 2012.. I’m pretty sure better games than D3 will come before…. so, they will lose market sharing and (as 3D realms)… could get bankrupt and close the doors… who knows…

  11. It’s truly hilarious peoples take on the characters for Diablo… reading some of these posts truly makes me chuckle.

well even with the release date likly to be late 2011, im sure there wil still be a strong following for this game. obviously there has already been alot of effort been put into creating this game. so my bets are on this game being insane by the time its released. although i really wanna get on this game now, im glad they are not releasing it with a whole load of teething problems. anyone who played d1 and d2 will be gunning for this. will make a nice change to wow which although is still very good, it will be very milked at the release date point of d3.
