Based on the information coming out of this year’s E3, Halo fans will have it good for a while to come. This year will see the release of Halo 3: ODST, a standalone expansion to the final game of the Halo trilogy. That’s not all though: Bungie also unveiled a short trailer of Halo: Reach, a prequel and a brand new game in the series.

The trailer is pretty sparse on the details – it simply shows a planet coming under attack – but a few things have been confirmed. First off, the game is a first person shooter, so it seems Bungie is back to doing what they do best. It’ll take place on the planet Reach, which comes under Covenant assault, and judging by an earlier series tie-in novel “The Fall of Reach,” eventually falls.

It’s unknown whether or not the game will feature Master Chief as the primary character, but the game takes place at a time when there were still many Spartan-II super soldiers milling about, and Master Chief did in fact serve in that campaign, making an appearance likely.

Halo: Reach will be coming out sometime in 2010, and like all Halo games before it, it is an Xbox 360 exclusive.
