Confirmed: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Still Free

After a survey that Activision put out a while back, asking if people would be willing to pay extra for Call of Duty features, a lot of people got really nervous. Some of them got a little angry, too, afraid that Modern Warfare 2 or other Call of Duty games would adopt an MMO-like payment model, or microtransactions. Well, I am happy to report that those rumors are officially quashed, at least for the CoD titles produced by Infinity Ward.

On Wednesday, Infinity Ward community manager Fourzerotwo gave an official statement on the company’s forums. He wrote:

This rumor has absolutely nothing to do with Infinity Ward or our games, including Modern Warfare 2. We would never introduce such a system for Modern Warfare 2 so don’t worry.

Multiplayer will always be equal and free for everyone as always.

So there you have it: free and equal as always. That said, we do have to acknowledge the possibility that other Call of Duty titles might go this route, or there may be a full-on CoD MMO. Infinity Ward’s games have always been the best in the series, though, so at least those games are staying the way they are. That should ease a lot of fans minds.
