Though many educators and parents are very concerned about the violence and sexual content that children as young as four are exposed to, Game Changer, a new initiative in education, seeks to introduce games that actually help children to learn healthy behaviors and basic educational skills.
The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, supported by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Pioneer Portfolio submitted the full report. The WWICFS believes that there is amazing potential for development even in the mobile devices which can personalize a child’s learning environment.
One of the key challenges is to address the current slump in a child’s reading ability. Dr. James Paul Gee, the Mary Lou Fulton Presidential Professor of Literacy Studies at Arizona State University, is a ground breaker and advocate for educational games. Dr. Gee believes that New literacies can be developed through games that stimulate learning through a child’s ability to interact, innovate and create paths to learning.
