DiRT 3 is a perfect example of why “Online Pass” is a bad idea

DiRT 3 was released this week with the requirement of an Online Pass to play online, a business strategy to counter the sales of used games. With that said, its a shitty idea because players can’t redeem their Pass codes and thus, no online play.

The problem derives from the attack on Sony which has caused the PlayStation Store to go offline. Without access to the PlayStation store, players cannot redeem the codes and nobody can get online despite the fact that the PlayStation Network has been brought online and running fine now.

This has really been an inconvenience to all the loyal consumers who are paying full price for the game. Between endless patches, DRM and now online passes, its enough of a reason to wait a month or two and pick up the game cheaper than to support the publishers.
