Dragon Age 2 Sneaks SecuROM into your PC

Publishers of Dragon Age 2, Electronic Arts managed to land themselves with some bad PR today when a consumer rights group has detected their game disc installing the notorious SecuROM, an intrusive DRM software hated many many PC gamers including myself.

EA did not inform gamers about the DRM software anywhere, not on the game’s packaging nor on their website and not even on the EULA which majority of the gamers do not read. The group known as “Reclaim Your Game” has been contacting their subscribers to warn them of EA’s violation and news has been spreading fast regarding the ill intentions of EA.

“We have CONFIRMED from testing that it DOES contain SecuROM, and that it DOES leave files behind. We can also confirm that nowhere on the package, in the EULA or on the Website for the game is thee ANY mention of the inclusion of SecuROM. EA had been ordered by the courts to disclose the use of SecuROM on any game that uses it. And it is contradictory of what Bioware has been saying for the last 3 weeks.”

This is only a small role of what RYG is doing for the community, a PDF report has been created summarizing some of the details can be found here and a more detailed analysis here.

In the end, EA, you are shunning your loyal customers away. Why pay for a copy of the game when the pirated version is better and free?
