EA to Add New Control Schemes to Fight Night Round 4… via DLC?

EA might be taking microtransactions just a little bit too far with some upcoming downloadable content for Fight Night: Round 4. A few weeks ago, the game’s producer Brian Hayes told IGN that players might gain the ability to map some controls to the face buttons on a controller – but they’ll have to download an add-on to do it. While it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not this specific DLC will be paid or free, it does have some gamers a little bit worried. The idea of having to pay just to map a game’s controls the way you want puts a bad taste in my mouth.

Frankly, even if you don’t have to pay, this whole thing kind of sucks, especially considering that the option to remap your controls to the face buttons was stock in Fight Night: Round 3. It’s not like this is new, cutting edge technology or something.

On the brighter side of things, it looks like there may some legitimate DLC attached to the game as well, including extra customization options for fighters and possibly even new licensed boxers. Let’s just hope EA does the right thing and gives you the controller mapping option for free.
