As if two new Metal Gear Solid titles weren’t enough, Konami surprised the E3 crowd with yet another game in the franchise. It’s quite the odd duck, as well. While it’s not too surprising to get a true sequel to Snake Eater or to have a new game starring ninja-Raiden, I doubt anyone expected Metal Gear Solid Arcade. Konami hasn’t really released any significant information about this new title, except that it is in fact an arcade game.

Not an arcade-style game – an actual arcade game in a big old arcade cabinet. More accurately, four cabinets that are linked together for multiplayer play. Reportedly, the game is based on a reworked version of the multiplayer game Metal Gear Solid online.

MGS is certainly a series known for taking weird paths, but this really ranks up there. On an even wilder note, the game apparently makes use of 3D goggles. It will be interesting to see how the game plays out, giving the dwindling popularity of arcades.
