Final Fantasy XIII Demo Comparison: HDTV vs Analog TV
April 21, 2009 by Ruibo
Yes, the answer is an obvious one — of course the HDTV quality will be better but regardless, it’s always interesting to see the actual difference.
For kicks, Japanese site Intermezzo compared the Final Fantasy XIII Blu-ray PS3 demo on two televisions (one HD, one analog). Let’s have a look.
One of the televisions was a US$200 model 14-inch Sony WEGA from the year 2000. The other was a US$4,000 50-inch Pioneer plasma panel from 2006.
It’s not much of a competitive matchup. None-the-less, I feel its worth the minute to take a quick glance and see how it compares.
Square Enix previously stated it was trying to make FFXIII playable on analog televisions. Although the demo is not the final retail version, it does create quite some concerns on how difficult it is to read text the analog.
Another interesting comparison: Blu-ray Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete on a 50-inch HD TV, Blu-ray FFVII: ACC on a 14-inch analog TV, and DVD Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children on a 14-inch analog TV.
Not much of a difference between the Blue-ray and DVD on an analog TV but between a HDTV and analog, I would consider picking up a $4,000 HDTV just to see Tifa kick a** (I’m in love with her). $4000 is quite a lot to blow but there are other great quality TVs for less than half the price. In a recent post we’ve listed 5 of the best gaming HDTV LCDs within the price range of $1,000 more or less. Enjoy!
