Freerunning and Combat Action in the Assassin’s Creed II Trailer
June 4, 2009 by srfto

The new trailer for Assassin’s Creed II, revealed at E3 ‘09, gives us a taste of the new setting and characters for this sequel. We’re fast forwarded some 300 years in the timeline since the prior game, as this new game takes place in renaissance Italy, circa 1486.
The trailer shows a lively masquerade party, which the main character assassin – who looks very much like Altair from the first game – infiltrates. After assassinating one party-goer in the traditional hand-blade fashion, he bests a series of guards, even using their own weapons against them. Then it’s off for the chase, using those fancy parkour moves that made the first game so much fun. Finally, we see a taste of something new, as the assassin actually launches one of his hand-blades with some sort of gunpowder mechanic, lodging it firmly in his next targets throat.
Assassin’s Creed II launches in November of this year for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It looks to improve on many of the aspects that people disliked in the first game. There’ll be more mission types to engage in, new cities such as Venice to explore, a more interesting countryside area, new weapons and technology, and an improved freerunning system.
