Gamestop Looking to “Improve Vendor Relations” By No Longer Pushing Used Games
June 19, 2009 by srfto

We talked about how the PSP Go! might cause a little bit of strain on relationships between video game retailers and the companies that actually produce the games. It seems like one of the biggest video game retailers, GameStop, may have gotten the hint. Internal communications in the company have changed the general operating procedure for GameStop associates.
The old plan was to always try and sell and used version of a game to a customer who wanted a new copy. The new policy tries to move away from this “downsell” technique, and just let people go on their merry way with brand new titles – at least for 60 days.
While it seems unlikely that the secondary market is going anywhere, could it be that Gamestop is facing some pressure to try and get more new copies of game’s into people’s hands? Or are they trying to be proactive and reinforce a good relationship with their business partners?
