Another console announced at GDC… well, sort of. Tectoy and its network-based console, the Zeebo, relies purely on downloadable games. It is not a competitor of the 3 major consoles, Xbox 360, Wii nor the PS3. It’s more of a way to combat online piracy.

At launch, the console will come with the mobiles games Quake, Evil Prey and Action Hero 3D. The console will have a constant free-of-charge connection to a 3G network courtesy of Tectoy’s partner, Claro, one of the largest cellular providers in the Americas. Americas? Yes, the console is currently launching in Brazil this July and to other similar markets in the following months.

The console was not built with “power” as their primary focus but more on a method of distribution. They’re goal is to provide various titles to different regions that has no direct access to certain games through downloadable channels.

Capcom, EA Mobile, Namco Networks, PopCap Games and THQ have already confirmed support for the new console. Game prices will vary between $7-$13 with the console priced at about $265.
