Good News and Bad News for Namco’s Splatterhouse Remake
May 1, 2009 by srfto

News today from Namco is mixed news if you were looking forward to a release of the Splatterhouse game any time soon. The game, which is a remake of the 1988 game that came out in arcades, on PCs, and on the doomed TurboGrafx system, looked like it might be a lot of fun. I personally love violent video games and the idea of the main character being able to use his own dismembered limbs as weapons against enemies sounded pretty amazing.
The good news is the game is still on even though Namco took it away from the developers at Bottlerocket without really specifying any reasons. The other good news is that Namco is hiring on some of Bottlerocket’s staff to work on the game with Namco’s internal developer division. That means people who’ve had an ongoing relationship with the game’s development will get to continue working on their baby and that will, hopefully, mean a better game at the end.
Unfortunately, all of these changes make it unlikely the game will be released in December 2009 as originally speculated. That means we’ll have to wait even longer to enjoy some (hopefully) good beat ‘em up violence.
Oh, and for those who do remember the original – Rick won’t be looking like a rip-off from the Friday the 13th franchise this time around . . . unless Jason Vorhees has been taking a lot of steroids lately.
