How I Reviewed a PSP Battery and Learned to Give Out Coupons

Most people look for a new PSP battery because theirs has lost battery life over time, but not me: my friend dropped the PSP and the back popped open, spewing the battery the Darth Vader back cover into a gutter. I cried to the gods and went on a search for a battery below $10.

If you’re like me (ie: cheap, broke, or both), then dishing out $40 for an official battery is unthinkable. Honestly, that money could be spent on a game or food or something.

I nabbed up a 2400mAh battery pack for the PSP-2000 to PSP-2006from BudgetGadgets.com because it was only $7.29, and I enjoy things that are under $10.

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much. I (like most) have had a lot of bad experiences with cheap hardware, so I was weary of a battery that was so much cheaper than the official ones. Luckily I wasn’t let down.

A brand new official PSP slim battery will last anywhere from 5 – 7 hours, and over time they slowly decrease. I decided to do some tests on the battery from BudgetGadgets to see how long it lasts out of the right box.

I did a full brightness and sound test as well a middle brightness and sound test because those are the most common settings. It’s worth noting that I played Star Ocean: First Departure, which puts the UMD drive under some extra strain as well.

At full sound and brightness, the 2400mAh battery lasted for a full 4 hours, while at half sound and brightness it lasted around 5 hours 30 minutes. That is not too shabby at all for a $7 battery.

I’ll admit I was really surprised, especially because I expected it to only last 2 hours at full brightness and sound. It also only took about 2 hours to charge up to full power, which is shorter than what I expected as well.

Overall, am I happy with it? I don’t know, would you be happy with a $7 battery that exceeded your expectations and allowed you to not be tethered to a power cord after a ridiculous accident? Of course you would, and I am too.

The guys over at BudgetGadgets.com have bestowed upon me a coupon code, which I am passing along to you, good readers. The site is cheap enough as it is, so the extra 5% off the code gives sort of makes it like a steal. A fabulous steal.

Enter the following code at the Payment Information step during check out: AM5OFF14 And then poof! Just like that, 5% off.

If you’re interested in the battery reviewed above and somehow didn’t catch the link before, the 2400mAh battery pack for PSP slims can be found here. If you’re looking for a replacement battery, you should definitely give it some consideration. Not just because it’s cheap, but also because the battery life is actually pretty respectable.
