Images of Japan Using Giant Robots to Ward Off Evil

These large and somewhat disturbing pictures from ohgizmo show the newest lifesize robot statue art going up in Japan. The 60 foot tall, 50 ton Iron Man will soon stand aloft in Wakamatsu Park (not to be confused with Watsamatta U) in Kobe. This is not the first of it’s kind gracing the shores of Japan’s main Island. The below images showing a 59 foot tall Gundam art statue stand in Shiokaze Park outside of Tokyo.

The real question is why?

    First one is Gigantor.
    Second is Gundam RX-78.
And the last one is not very popular.

Gigantor is build to commemorate it’s creator and the land of Kobe.
…a way to attract tourist and people after the devastating earthquake on Kobe.

While RX-78 is simply build for Gundam 30th anniversary.
Why RX-78? It’s because RX-78 is the very first Gundam robot that start the Gundam series.

    And you ask us why?

    Why not?

    Why do people build Liberty?
Why do people build Eiffel tower?

    Why not?
