Infinity Ward: 2 is Enough for Modern Warfare 2 Co-op

“Two player seemed to be the magic number for co-op. That’s when it stayed really fun and intense without becoming a clusterf**k of things.”
You’ve to appreciate that kind of honesty in the industry – that quote was from Infinity Ward spokesman Robert Bowling. The well-respected developer of the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 and a slew of previous Call of Duty games decided that they wouldn’t add bigger co-op modes because they just don’t add to the experience.
Infinity Ward takes their narrative seriously, as anyone who has played their games knows. That’s the reason that they also decided that rather than just jam co-op gameplay into the single-player scenario, they’d make a seperate co-op mini-campaign, called “Special Ops.”
Those who played CoD 4 may remember a one-off level that took place on a plane in flight, known as “Mile High Club” that was unrelated to the main game – that’s the kind of feel that the Special Ops scenarios are aiming for. Still, it would kind of cool to see some of the scripted scenes from these games from the eyes of multiple characters – maybe Modern Warfare 3 will have fully integrated co-op. One can only hope.
