Japanese Gears of War 2 Contest Prizes Border on Bizarre

Japan hasn’t quite embraced the Xbox 360, but should that stop Microsoft Japan from holding contests? Absolutely not! Especially with these prizes, which go from awesome to crazy in the blink of an eye.
First is the Lancer assault rifle replica, which they’re only giving away one of. To be fair, it does look pretty sweet. Who wouldn’t want to own a rifle with a chainsaw blade?
This is normal enough: night vision goggles. I’m sure there are some Japanese guys out there who would love to have night vision goggles for.. extracurricular activities. Three of these bad boys are being given away.
But the best is yet to come.
A dutch oven beginners set. Perfect for cooking outdoors! What this has to do with Gears of War 2 is some sort of mystery, but it’s got to be expensive: only two of them are being given away, while three of the night vision goggles are.
I guess it just goes to show how different gaming demographics are in Japan than elsewhere.
Japanese 360 owners can get one of these fine(ish) prizes by watching the Gears of War 2 promo video on the Japanese site and find the password. Doesn’t do much for us elsewhere who want a dutch oven, buy hey — I think we’ll live.
