Super producer Jerry Bruckheimer has moved into the video gaming market and according to the staff of Jerry Bruckheimer Games we’re in for a real treat with the release of original games and exceptional stories.
The partnership of Jerry Bruckheimer, Rock Band’s MTV Games and Pirates of the Caribbean which broke headlines during December of 2007 made a huge leap forward recently with the revelation that it’ll be headed up by two of the gaming industries most esteemed veterans.
The former vice president of Ubisofts publishing division Jay Cohen and Microsoft Veteran Jim Veevaert have paired up. In a recent press release Bruckheimer stated they’ll enable Jerry Bruckheimer games to “create content that challenges the way things are done and the experiences gamers have today,”
Cohens impressive work history includes assisting the Tom Clancy franchise, Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia.Veevaert has worked on projects such as Halo 3 and Bungie, Rare and Epic. He’ll be Bruckheimer’s production president.
The pair were interviewed this Monday.
They were pretty evasive throughout the interview with neither revealing dates or details regarding the upcoming titles but they spoke in depth of the philosophy they plan to inject into their work.
According to Cohen “Bruckheimer Games will run a tight ship” which you really would not expect, given the size of the companies involved “It’s not about putting 100 titles or 50 titles… in development at the same time. Let’s put a smaller number of them and think about them in the fashion that hasn’t really been done before.” This really ius great news for the gaming world. Attention to detail, quality over quantity.
“We’re going to create games that tell great stories,” Jim Veevaert stated. “It’s not about naming a genre or a platform that we’re making games for. It’s creating that impact.”
The company are planning to create 100% original video games that in a role reversal could then be converted to the big screen. Cohen has called this evolution and vowed to change the regular belief that video games are big movie marketing tools. He also spoke of his vision, a vision of top televsion and movie producers working closely with video game teams to forge a better final product. “This is a continued progression of what is a necessary education experience for all in order to advance the entertainment experience.”
The pair began working for Jerry Bruckheimer Games in the first quarter of 2009.
