John Koller on the PS3 Slim

A hot rumour that we were expecting to be unveiled or at least mentioned at the E3 was the allegedly upcoming PS3 slim. In a recent interview, John Koller, the Director of Hardware Marketing at Sony was asked if he had any additional information.
“If [the coverage] focuses more on leaks or what may or may not happen then yes, there is a certain amount of frustration. I think we have a tremendous story to tell today, and I think the path that we’re trying to lead is much different than Microsoft or Nintendo. We view a little bit of a different future,” he said “Who’s going to get to the future first? I think that’s a more interesting story than ‘I found some packaging in China that may or may not…’ you know, personally I don’t see that as a story. I’d love to live in a world with fewer leaks and more meat,”
The interviewer spoke of Johns body language shortly after mention of the PS3 slim, he said it was somewhat adversarial, almost as if he was skirting the issue and didn’t want to speak about it. Clearly Sony are not in a position to reveal their hand at this moment in time.

Since it’s worldwide release the PS3 has gone through many changes, I think its now unfair to expect people to fork out $400 for the gaming console when in the back of their mind they’re wondering what is coming next. How disheartened would you be if you bought a new PS3 only to discover a month or two later that they’re soon to release a streamlined version?
I think I speak for everyone when I say that hopefully Sony will come out and spill the beans one way or the other in the very near future.

Exactly! You are right, i’m waiting to something happen. I already own my HDTV, now thinking to buy a console, but waiting for a PS3 Slim, or a PS3 Cheap, or at least an official info if something will happen or not in the near future. X360 is good but i’d like to own a PS3. I can wait 1-2 month for Sony to do something, if not, Xbox seems to be the best buy in price/performance.
