For years, SNK was known for reusing sprites and just giving them minor tweaks or none at all. But with King of Fighters XII they worked from scratch to bring new sprites to the series, and they want to make sure you know how much work went into them.

KoF XII is right around the corner, and fans are almost literally frothing at the mouth waiting for the game to hit. SNK has given them a gift, and its worth a look even if you’re not into the game.

KOF 2D Dot Graphics Gallery is really a sight to be seen if you’re a 2D fighter junkie, classic gamer, or even a pixel artist. The site goes into great detail on the history of pixel art in games, the process they go through to make the character sprites, as well as gives a gallery of some of the characters from King of fighters XII in motion.

500 frames per character? You better believe it. The character graphics gallery lets you look at the character models at 400% size and view a couple of moves to really get an appreciation for the work they’ve done. It’s amazing to see how far 2D in games has come.

No Mai might be a disappointment, but her huge, uh.. assets, might have taken them forever to finish. It’s forgivable, I think.
