Konami just picked up the license for ‘Saw’ from Brash publisher. The game will be release this coming Fall on the XBox 360, PC, and PS3, along with the next Saw film ‘Saw VI’. Konami is hoping ‘Saw’ will be their next ‘Silent Hill’ franchise and will run along side with it.
David Daniels, director of marketing for Konami had this to say for the licence to ‘Saw’:
“Because we have leadership in the survival horror genre, we’re passionate about it and wanted to find another property on par with ‘Silent Hill,” he said, “‘Saw’ has grossed over $600 million worldwide and sold over 28 million DVDs, so we felt like it was a great opportunity to align ourselves with one of the most successful horror film franchises in history.”
After Brash publisher went bankrupt last Fall, Konami quickly picked up the license from Lion Gate Studios. The game’s plot will be original, but will be tied in with the story from the movies in some way. Players will be controlling one of the victims of “Jigzaw” and solve puzzles to save the other victims also.
“One of the big pillars of ‘Saw’ is the maniacal, twister serial killer Jigsaw’s very unusual traps and you can expect that’s something we’ll carry forward,” explained Daniels. “Some traps will even be a direct translation from the movies, particularly the iconic ones fans love.”
Hopefully, it will work out for Konami, then they will have two of the top survival horror franchise in the market.
