Left 4 Dead Crash Course DLC Price Not Valve’s Decision

l4d-crash-courseThe new L4D Crash Course DLC was announced just a month ago will be free on the PC but will cost Xbox users 560 points. We’ve suspected the pricing issue was not an issue by Valve and Eurogamer has confirmed today that it is indeed Microsofts plan.

Valve’s Chet Faliszek stated Microsoft has insisted upon a price on the DLC for Xbox users.

“We own our platform, Steam. Microsoft owns their platform. They wanted to make sure there’s an economy of value there”.

Valve can distribute what and how they want through Steam but when going through Xbox, big boy Microsoft comes into play.

When pressed about whether Microsoft effectively enforced the pricing, Faliszek added: “Well, they helped us get the first one out for free. We had the one DLC out for free. And I think… they have to look and say, wow, we’re kind of being unfair to everybody else if these guys can do that.

“It’s not like we’re [Valve is] looking at this as, ‘Oh my god, we need some money, we’re going to charge,’ obviously, or we’d do it on the PC. So it’s just kind of the way the system works right now.”

The Crash Course DLC is still slated for a September release, it’ll be a matter of days or weeks at most before its downloadable. The campaign is predominantly made for Versus mode intending for players to play through within 30 minutes. Compatibility with L4D2 is still undecided at this time but we’ll be keeping an eye out.

don't try to fool me valve you didn't charge for the pc campaign because well you couldn't you wouldn't make any money because the pc has mass downloadable maps /campaigns made by the community for free why would they buy your punny 30 min campaign DUH!!!. while us xbox users have been playing the same maps forever pc users have been enjoying making and playing new maps. So of course you would charge us xbox users were the only ones that are so desperate for new content we would pay regardless. this is a no brainner vavle just admit it and stop beating around the bush!!!!!
