The news of the 360-bound Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition has fans of the classic adventure game series more excited than words could express, but LucasArts is clear that the remake is the only update they currently have planned for the series. But, the keyword here is “currently.”

Producer Craig Derrick spoke with Destructoid about possibly continuing updates and “new adventures” if the remake sells and rates well enough.

Derrick hopes that Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will attract old fans of the game and “an all new generation of gamers that have only heard about Monkey Island or point-and-click adventure games, but have never played them.” He feels that if enough people enjoy the game they will be on their way to even more continuations of the series.

This is one of those instances where fans are going to have to act on their love of a game instead of just speak on it, and Monkey Island fans are more than happy to do so.

This news paired along with the new Tales of Monkey Island game from Telltale games makes this year the most Monkey Island-filled news year in almost a decade. It’s about time for Guybrush to come back.
