Microsoft Clarifies Xbox Live Advertisement Plan

Old dashboard, you were so simple and lacking in features. But at least you didn’t try to sell me things every other minute.
After all the negative response to their plan to implement advertisements into the Xbox 360 dashboard, Microsoft has spoken up to try and ease the minds of the less-than-pleased 360 owners.
Microsoft’s Larry Hryb posted a response to all the negative feedback on his blog.
I need to let you know that you don’t need to worry about a huge influx of ads across the dashboard. One of our core principles is to enhance, not interfere with the gaming experience, and we work directly with our partners to only deliver experiences that are relevant to the LIVE community. Silverlight will help make those ads a more organic part of the dashboard, like we’ve done with some of the NXE slots in the past. No one on the team wants to turn the dashboard into something that looks like like Shibuya Crossing. That’s just not good for anyone.
Despite Hryb’s kind words stating that the dashboard will not in fact become anything like Shibuya, a large number of Gold members are still up in arms. But, his statement does not claim whether they will be adding ads or simply overhauling their current advertisement system with the Silverlight software.
Whatever the case, there doesn’t seem to be any stopping it now. Xbox 360 owners will have to wait and see how Silverlight will affect their dashboard experience to see if the above damage control has any truth to it or not.
