Mixed reviews on ‘Resident Evil 5′

Resident Evil 5 was released in the US just yesterday and its buzzing all around. Some fans love it while others hate it with passion. Many fans were disappointed with RE5 due to the transition from a survival horror to more of an action genre.

As for me, I personally like ‘Resident Evil 5′ and I have to say it is a very awesome game, but I do however, miss the survival horror that got me hooked into the series in the first place.

On Gamespot it scored a 8.5 with a user score of 8.9, while on Computerandvideogames it scored only 7.3 saying it wasn’t scary enough to be a Resident Evil game.

Here are some other mixed reviews from multiple gaming sites:

Game Informer: Co-op changes your approach to survival horror, and the masterful pacing ensures you never take your eye off the action. Like its predecessor, Resident Evil 5 is destined to be remembered as one of the best games of its time.

Game | Life: A few other low points (like a bunch of lame boss fights) aside, Resident Evil 5 is a challenging, engaging, well-paced action game. But it barely resembles the series whose name it carries.

Joystiq: It’s a solidly constructed, workman-like effort with some cool set pieces that figure into some exciting boss fights (I’m looking at you, rad blast furnace battle with giant plague zombie). But too often you’re left befuddled, muddling through some strange, wrong-headed mixture somewhere between action and horror, hoping against hope that Resident Evil finds its way again.

IGN: As an action game, RE5 is a success, and there’s a wealth of replayability through item collection, weapon upgrades, score chasing and the unlockable Mercenaries mode.

1up: The bottom line is that RE5 is a very beautiful, occasionally exciting game with a lot of built-in value to recommend it, but it’s far too disjointed to qualify as a top-tier addition to the canon.

G4: Regrettably, tradition plays yet another role in RE5’s flaws. The control scheme mirrors that of RE4 which was an improvement for the series back then but comes across as an unfortunate anachronism wholly unjustified by the game in 2009.

MTV Multiplayer: It’s a pity that the game’s restrictive controls have received such scorn. They are RE5′s unique touch, its own twist on its rush of explosive scenes that could have appeared in other games. Get a grip on what makes RE5 still instill panic and you’ll enjoy this adventure.

GamePro: They’ve created what might be their best effort to date: the incredible Resident Evil 5. Building upon the rock solid foundation laid by Resident Evil 4, RE5 delivers a pulse-pounding experience that can’t be missed. Features Editor Patrick Shaw, who just happens to be our resident horror fiend, doesn’t think it delivers the scares of past RE titles but it has more than enough action to keep you on the edge of your seats.

As you can see from the reviews ‘Resident Evil 5′ is a great action game in itself, but just not a good survival horror game. The original price is $59.99 for both PS3 and Xbox 360 but Amazon seems to always have pretty good prices whether new or used. On PS3 it is currently available for $49.99 and $53.99 for Xbox 360.

So if you’re like me and thought this was the one to scare the bejeezus out of you then I suggest you to skip this one, however if you looking for a good action packed game then this is a awesome choice for it. Last but not lease, the biggest disappointment of the game is how we’re getting charged for competitive play.
