Rumors: Modern Warfare 2 IW.Net Contains a Trojan Virus

More bad news for gamers who bought the PC version of Modern Warfare 2. This time around it is reported on the official Infinity Ward forum that there is a Trojan virus that is spreading with everyone that are on IW.Net Modern Warfare 2.
The problem started when hackers put in a Trojan called TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen inside Modern Warfare 2 and let IW.Net do the work of transmitting to other gamers. It has already been reported that Call of Duty: World at War is infected also. The Trojan is suppose to be some sort of keylogging software, which means copying client cd-keys or in a worst case scenario it will steal credit card information.

One of the community member at Tek-9 discovered the location of the Trojan in their C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Temp and with the file names ~B8.tmp and ~B8.vir. Also, these files are created once the player host a game on IW.Net.
On the good side some users are saying the Trojan virus is a false positive, however, it just makes you wonder why would the file pop up in the first place. Hopefully, this will be all sorted out as soon as possible if not then guess we gotta get that “Boycott” thing going again rah?

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a false-positive caused by some sort of compression used on the downloaded executable, the MAME project has been dogged by people complaining about “trojans” for the longest time.

TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen is not a virus / trojan its an algorithm used to encrypt repacked executables so they cant be dissasembled easily. As this is the case most AV programs will automatically flag it as a threat because they cant see inside them and / or virii/troj/worms in the past have used this algorithm to hide their payload .
I suspect this is a symptom of the host having hacks which are somehow being transported to clients via the shite p2p matchmaking system
All those retards on the IW forum shouting trojan really gave me a giggle this morning.

That’s probably a false positive. I run in to it all the time doing the most mundane things. Whoever made that virus sure is patting themselves on the back right now.

Wow, what a load of shit. This is a false positive picked up by players using Avira. Avira said that this will be fixed in the next update.
Please, check your facts before potentially ruining a great game.

All this is included in Modern Warfare and is the prime example of out of the box inherent security vulnerabilities.
Further more, nothing in EULA says about me having to lower NAT firewall just to use the product I bought.

Please, another moron. There will be no class suit, also known correctly as a Class Action Law Suit, because there are no grounds. When you willingly play the game, willingly take part, you have then accepted the risk and have no grounds to sue. Enjoy!

it seems to be a virus for avira, but im think its harmless then we think. if u delete this files during u run steam and play CODMW2 it will broke your connection to steam and u will get lost your connection to the gameserver. thats happening to me if i say avira to delete or quarantene the file or i delete them manually. seems to be a session file. hmmm…
I got a virus from mw2 im og and i cant start my comp… What happened is i maleed some guy and ad soon ad i did that everything went bluewath wierd thingys and og crashed . When u start up ur comp og shows like black screen with white text and should say something about the comp before og shows the windows startup screen the text there is all wierd has some letters coloured pink. Has anyone got this? Sorry for bad spelling using ipod touch because man comp is broken:’((((
