More Lucasarts Title May Rerelease if Monkey Island Succeeds

The success of the release of Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is going to be critical for the series to continue. Producer of the game Craig Derrick had some words about it yesterday, but the LucasArts Community Manager Brooks Brown has stepped forward today with more info.

It’s been a long time since point and click adventure games have gotten any attention and it seems LucasArts is more than happy to make them, they’re just not sure they can keep up in today’s market.

“If this sells, there’s no one at this company who doesn’t want to do these games. It’s a matter of showing that there’s interest and this market is alive and get people as excited as possible about Monkey Island Special Edition to show that these things can make it,” says Brown.

He goes on to assure fans that the entire voice cast from Curse of Monkey Island will be back for Secret, as well as remastered audio and hand-drawn and painted graphics.

Real effort has been put towards the graphics, and it will definitely show. Brown goes into details, saying that they had to work on one hundred backgrounds all at 1080p levels — meaning they’re huge — as well as 4000 animations for the game’s hundred characters that “had to be redrawn by hand, just for that extra level of detail and that storyboard look that we’ve been trying to get.

And fans can rejoice: Nothing from the original game will be altered or taken out, including the “Ask me about Loom” pin. Though he does mention that small hints will be available to make the game more accessible to the puzzle-stumped.

Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace and PC next month, hopefully the guys over at LucasArts won’t be able to resist releasing more information until then.

If only had gone to the developers website, they make point and click adventure games exclusively: http://www.telltalegames.com/

I’d say if a developer can survive on only making point & click games then they get attention

I think point and click adventure games can make a comeback. Their writing was usually awesome, and if they were updated with top-of-the-line graphics, they would be even better.

Oh My God! If anyone played the classic Lucas Arts Games, I really want to see a re release or maybe a reproduction of The Dig and Tie Fighter. Tie fighter was soooo simple and it was one of the best games ever made. As for The Dig, The Dig was one of the most in depth, wonderfully written stories and gameplay Ive experienced in my long video game career.

Second that for a Tie Fighter re-make – I loved that game, and it would be pretty awesome with today’s level of graphics. Not quite sure all the keys would map onto a controller though…
