What can you do with a fourteen-month-old Motorola SLVR and a twenty-one-year old NES Controller? Well the easiest possible answers would have been:

a) Junk both
b) Junk one of them (the more useless one, of course), and keep using the other, or
c) Let them both collect dust

But when you combine someone’s genius with passion, you get a totally different option. You guessed it; you can retrofit the Motorola SLVR with a new case in the form of the Nintendo controller. And that’s exactly what genius Joe Hill did. Read all the details about how he did that at Jackofallblades.

Basically the process of getting the SLVR into the controller and making the phone work with the most relevant functionalities involved:

1) Making room for the screen and the keypad by melting the right portions of the NES controller
2) Replacing the screws in the casing with snug-fits
3) Some cutting and chopping of the D-pad and melting portions of the casing for the control buttons
4) Provision for a USB connector for charging the headset
5) Consciously dropping some of the features of the SLVR like the four side buttons and the light sensor, which our nerd decided to do without

And hurray, the imitation iPhone was fully functional. To understand the steps and to see all the pictures check out the full article above.

Well, if you are also a genius with improvising as a hobby, shoot us a email and some pics!
