At E3 two new Mario games were displayed, one of which has fans very excited. The New Super Mario Bros, which shares a title and cover image from a DS game, has been confirmed that it will be released on the Wii during the holiday season this year.

So what has fans getting so worked up (other than it being a Mario game)? It’s a new multiplayer Wii game that can have up to four players at the same time. It’s still the 2D side scrolling action that has been found in Mario games before it, just now four players can be playing at the same time. Single players will also have the ability to switch between characters during their game play.

Players will be able to work with their friends to do special moves, receive items, and even carry players across the screen to avoid the dangers in the Mario universe. Some items will drop for every player when a box is hit, but it can’t be expected. Another new addition is the propeller suit, which the name really speaks for itself. A video was displayed at the convention to showcase all of these new tricks.

Sure, the Mario sidescroller has been before, but that doesn’t make it any less fun! Adding friends into the mix and getting to play multiplayer at the same time instead of waiting for it to be Luigi’s turn definitely adds a whole new element to Mario gaming.
