Nintendo 3DS Gets Massive Price Cut, $170 beginning August 12

This has been the biggest and fastest price drop in gaming history, Nintendo has reduced the price on their 4 month old handheld 3DS from the original price of $249 to $169.99.

We’ve known the 3DS hasn’t been selling as much as Nintendo had expected but we’re still another 4 months away from the holiday season and the price reduction is more than a bargain.

“For anyone who was on the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS, this is a huge motivation to buy now,” says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “We are giving shoppers every incentive to pick up a Nintendo 3DS, from an amazing new price to a rapid-fire succession of great games.”

On top of the price cut, those who purchased or will buy a 3DS before the August 12 markdown will receive 20 free games from the 3DS eShop in the form of ten NES Virtual Console games available after September 1, and ten Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games which will be available later.

Amazon has already started offering pre-orders on the price cut with free shipping and a BOGO on 3DS games. Buy 1 3DS game, get a second one free.
