Nintendo Considered Camera-Based Motion Control
June 11, 2009 by srfto

With the debut of new motion sensing technologies on the part of both Microsoft and Sony, it looks like both of them have effectively one-upped the motion control that made the Wii a runaway best-seller. This report comes from PCMag.com: as it turns out, though, Nintendo had also considered using the camera-based technology used by Microsoft’s Project Natal and Sony’s unnamed motion controller, but ultimately rejected it in favor of their accelerometer tech seen in the Wii.
It looks like Nintendo will be sticking to its guns, as they’re pushing out their MotionPlus technology soon, and have announced no plans to follow Microsoft or Sony’s example. Nintendo seems confident with what they’ve already got, so it’ll be interesting to see if the new kids on the block will be able to overtake the giant that is the Wii.
