No, Microsoft Isn’t Racist: Natal Works With All Skin Colors

I doubt anyone’s really surprised by this news, but if anyone was concerned, Microsoft has confirmed that the Natal will work no matter the player’s ethnicity or skin color. There was a hint of concern about this after games journalist N’Gai Croal had some trouble playing the Burnout: Paradise using Natal at E3. There were also some reports that the melatonin in a black person’s skin can interfere with the infrared sensors used by the Natal.
However, there is also some video of a number of other African-American celebrities playing Burnout without a hitch and having a ball doing so. Could you just imagine the kind of fallout that Microsoft would be facing if Natal were “white’s only?” It would be perhaps the biggest, most disastrous oversight in the history of the industry.
According to the statement released by the company, “Natal will obviously work with people of all shapes an ethnicities at launch.” It does beg the question though: what happens when some unfortunately disfigured or massively overweight person tries to play the Natal and has trouble? Will we see some ridiculous and frivolous lawsuits? Let’s hope not.
