Obama Wants Parents to Monitor Video Games

While the president isn’t asking parents to support him in an attack against M-rated games like some other government officials have been, he still thinks parents should take an active interest in what their children are playing.

Some people seem to think that this means that Obama is not as gamer friendly as we had initially believed, but he isn’t saying don’t let them play games.

Instead, President Obama feels that children need to be sure to spend time outside playing games as well as playing games inside. He feels it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that children get good exercise as youths so that they grow up understanding the importance of being healthy.

He’s not saying that video games make children unhealthy. I think the claim made by Mike Gallagher, the Entertainment Software Administration president, about Obama being game-friendly still stands true. After all, playing video games 100% of the time can lead to unhealthy behaviors, but 80% is probably okay.
