FTC attorneys have recently sat down with representatives of online gaming news website Virtual worlds. They’re investigating mature adult content in virtual communities such as Second Life. Rumour has it that they’re writing a report that’s due in congress this December, a reports which owes its existence to a scathing report by Mark Kirk that documents the “rape rooms” found in the Second Life world. According to Virtual Worlds, the FTC are gathering facts, nothing more at this stage.

Second Life had recently announced wide scale restructuring of its environment in an effort to restrict the access of minors to the adult content areas. Could these two events be related? Second Life developer Linden Lab has stated that the new addition will be an adult only continent that’ll have strict security measures in place to stop children’s access. Lets hope so, some of the areas in Second Life are shall we say, very adult orientated.

I think instead of making an adult only restricted area, why not just make another game thats strictly adults only. This way you are separating people who use those content from us who just wants wholesome fun.
