Pachter sees potential in EA Sports Active, but not for Spore

Micheal Patcher of Wedbush Morgan Securities reported on Electronic Arts today, he raised their stock expectancies to $27 (formerly $20) and expressed his utter confidence in their goals.

He said, “We think that the company’s lineup will allow it to handily beat consensus expectations the first half of the year, and expect EA shares to continue to appreciate over the near term. We are particularly impressed with the potential for EA Sports Active and for Tiger Woods, and think that both could be blockbusters on the Wii.”"

Clearly, he holds their Wii activities and aims in very high regard.

As usual, Patcher isn’t going to praise without admonishing someone or something. Speaking of Warhammer Online he remains incredibly skeptical about the potential the game possesses. He stated with only 300,000 paid subscribers, the game is only profiting about $10 million. He feels the game will fail and barely break even if this number drops lower than 250,000.

He also isn’t holding hope for their attempts to convert the Spore game into a sustainable franchise which, in his words, has sold only as many copies as a typical Spongebob Squarepants title. Ouch, that has to hurt.

I also think Wii Active will be a hit. The promotion machine is ramping up now, they just posted their first TV commercial on the website.
