Playstation Home Needs to Reach Higher to Meet Goal

There are a lot of mixed feelings about Playstation Home that are hard to describe, though many of them seem to float into the boredom category. The service has finally reached 7 million users, but that’s not so impressive considering that 21 million Playstation 3s are sitting in living rooms worldwide.
Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe’s director of Home, Peter Edward, is hopeful for the future of the “social platform,” but is well aware of the problems that have held it back.
He sees it as more than a social platform, but the Playstation community’s visual representation. And a way for developers to come together with their fanbases, which has been a little sparse thus far, but is to be done more in the future.
According to Edward, money is not Sony’s driving force with Home, but rather it is the “starting point” for Playstation online.
So far, out of the 7 million home users, almost half of them — a full 3 million — are in Europe.
Home’s future is a bit of a mystery, but Sony seems to be putting too much emphasis on the social platform to sell the system and to avoid a possible price cut.
What Sony sees as the future of their online infrastructure is only a side distraction or time waster for many. And in order to improve that image they will have to make it more interactive and more like a “social gaming hub” than a “social platform.”
