"Ever wanted to see Pokemons redesigned …"

Nope, but I'm glad I just saw it. Those are pretty cool and I've never even played Pokemon.

Never played Pokemon, but if there were a release with this design scheme, I'd certainly be game to give it a go. Great re-imagining and very well executed.

The characters for the names are all using chinese characters. ( I think?) Would Japan have started implementing their own katakana/kanji?

I'm not knowledgeable about this subject at all, but I've noticed that there are no distinct Japanese characters for the names.

Look at the bottom right hand corner of the first picture. It's Machop, but what's that hanging between his legs?

Cubone and Marowak are the scariest, in my opinion. Second panel, right side, in the center.

My kids are nuts about Pokemon, while they freaked a little at the re-imagining of their favorite characters, they were able to recognize and name nearly all of them. I was a little disturbed at how many I knew just from being around them all the time.
