PS3 Slim contract awarded to Taiwanese firms [Rumors]

The much awaited PS3 Slim is here. Does it have new and improved features, something new to play around with? Well unfortunately the answer is NO. Although you can expect it to be lightweight for easy carry around and of course slim.
Two Taiwanese manufacturing companies have been awarded contracts to build Sony’s new streamlined PS3 also known as PS3 Slim. According to UDN.com, half of the orders have gone to Taiwanese group Foxconn, while the other half has gone to Pegatron. Shipping is expected to start in early July which will coincide with the high demands in summer vacation. The timing is kind of uncanny mainly because Japan actually buys most of its game consoles during the summer vacation period unlike the western gamers who normally would do the same in the winter holidays.
The PS3 Slim is expected to be a redesigned, smaller home console, with only marginal technical changes, similar to cosmetic changes made to the PlayStation 2 and the PSP Slim & Lite. And you can expect it to hit the markets sometime in mid August or September which is not too far ahead in the future.
