So, Red Steel 2 will basically do most of the same things the first game did. It has a very Asian-influenced style, and it once again combines the use of both swords and guns via the Wii’s motion controls. So what is going to make Red Steel 2 different than it’s poorly received predecessor? Well, Ubisoft is hoping that Wii’s new MotionPlus technology will be the key difference, by refining the controls into a one-to-one movement between your hand and your character’s hand on the screen.

Most reviews of the MotionPlus seem to suggest that the technology is powerful enough to do just that… but that leaves the lingering question: are gamers going to want to shell out an extra $20 expanding their Wii’s capabilities for a sequel to an entirely mediocre game? Well, no doubt a lot of casual gamers will be picking up the MotionPlus to go along with Wii Sports Resort anyway – so maybe that will give Red Steel 2 a jumping off point to redeeming the series.
