Remember Asteroids? Soon you will be watching it (not playing)

Yes, I am not dreaming. I can pinch myself and say, I am talking about the 1979 Atari game Asteroids. Apparently there was a closely fought bidding war in Hollywood to get the rights to make a movie based on that age-old classic videogame Asteroids. And Universal Pictures have won the war against three other studios.
If you recall, Asteroids uses vector graphics and a two-dimensional view that wraps around in both screen axes. The player controls a spaceship in an asteroid field which is periodically traversed by flying saucers. The object of the game is to shoot and destroy asteroids and saucers while not colliding with either, or being hit by the saucers’ counter-fire.
It is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, producer of the Transformers films and the upcoming G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra feature, and the script will be written byMatthew Lopez [who also wrote the script for Bedtime Stories and Race to Witch Mountain...] . Sure enough, he will have a free hand to do what he wants and create an exciting world around the simple concept of blowing up Asteroids.
You can bet there will be plenty of Real 3D. All you animation buffs, you know whom to get in touch with and make a moolah for yourself. I can be a dependable partner, if you will.
