Review: Mini Earphone Converter for the Xbox 360
Due to my love for all things cheap, I got the chance to review a headphone/microphone converter for the 360 from BudgetGadgets.com. I’m also offering you a coupon, if you are so inclined.
If you happen to have lost your official 360 headset or somehow just don’t have one, this converter plugs into the controller to allow you to connect separate microphone and headphone pieces. Its uses are pretty limited, but there is a definite market for this type of thing.
I haven’t lost or broken my headset (yet), so I did a consecutive test between the converter and a Sony mic and microphone, then a cheap mic back from ‘98 and cheap earbuds, and then back to the official Xbox 360 headset.
Of course the differences between the cheap mic and buds and the Sony products were significant, but the difference between the official headset and the separate Sony microphone and headphones was minimal.
The converter did reflect the quality of the audio devices, but it did not affect it. The Sony mic and phones definitely did not suffer quality-wise in use, and the old and cheap stuff sounded just as mediocre as they
always have. Completely expected results.
There’s no real reason to spend more money on something so simple if you ask me. It’s totally functional, does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and it’s ridiculously economical at $2.71.
So far the products over at BudgetGadgets.com haven’t done me wrong, and that’s more than I expect stuff that’s so cheap.
As advertised in the review for the PSP battery, the fine people over at Budget Gadgets have supplied us with a coupon to pass on to you. Pop it into the comment field on the Payment Information field at checkout and you get a spankin’ 5% off of your total purchase (does not need to include the converter). Not too shabby.
The group of people who would need something like a headphone/mic converter for their 360 are in a pretty niche group, but they’re out there. Probably feeling left out or something.

Hi,
Does this convert 3.5″ plugs? Or only 2.5″?
