Rumor: New slim PS3 revealed via Chinese factory leak?

China is well known and famous for their bootlegging skills but they’re also one of the preferred manufacturing locations for businesses because of the salary cost. These images were revealed through a Chinese gaming forum, the post has been taken down. Only conclusion that I think the post would be removed is if Sony had called them on it. The new PS3 looks slimmer and sleeky, if this was true perhaps a price drop may accompany this model.

I’ve had a good look over these and made a few observations that question their creditability. Firstly the case looks pretty cheap, to me it looks like a nasty copy rather than a professionally designed console casing. My other point of contention is the logo.

Would Sony consider a logo alteration during the successful life of one of their consoles? It’s not been done before, the logo on the PS2 remained constant throughout its glorious tenure. Ken Kutaragi -the godfather of Playstation – was in charge back then, he isn’t these days so it is possible the new people in charge have different sentiments. 

These images clearly show the rebranding from Playstation 3 to PS3 – is this legit? Who knows, we can only speculate at this moment in time.

It cannot be denied that Sony like to release slim versions of their consoles though. It’s happened before so the likelihood of it happening again is very high. We cant really call this one, people will go to extraordinary lengths to release force information. But, if memory serves us well – didn’t the initial pictures of the PSP-3000 arrive via blurry pics on obscure websites?

We’ll have to wait out on this one, although it would be nice to hear your opinions on these photographs.
