Rumor: Starcraft 2 Beta Release Date

Starcraft 2 is near Beta and Blizzard has even set a date for it, as mentioned time and time again from every other Starcraft fansite. Althought he actual date has not been announced it was rumored that the date has already been set. Xordia (an employee of Blizzard entertainment) had a long chat with a German fan in ESL weekend Vienna who among other things heard that Blizzard have a set (secret) date for the Closed Beta!
While the actual date has not been officially announced, its nice to know we are not too far away and Blizzard is moving things quite nicely.
Here are the translations from the German fan’s summary:
- Blizzard has a fixed date for the beta, however, it’s still a secret.
- The multiplayer part of the game is basically done, except for a few details.
- There will be several opportunities to participate in the beta to come (including competitions, perhaps a kind of story competition or similar).
- In the current build (internally at Blizzard), there is a Dark Pylon with a cool ability, which enables Probes to harvest faster within the reach of the Pylon.
- The Command Center can now use a new cool ability that creates a “bigger” SCV which is better at harvesting.
- Supply depots can be upgraded to give +2 Supply.
- Xordiah, who is a “Protoss Fetishist”, is Very Happy.
- This Immortal is a new unit replacing the dragoons and are extremely strong.

Starcraft 2 wont be released this year. Blizzard plan to release the game March 2010. Although I have reason to believe that the exact date has not been decided yet, I am sure that the game will be out sometime in March.
Actually the secret official date is Oct 31st, t is posted on a lot of online website stores.

pretty sure u guys are mentally retarded because everyone on every website i go to has a different release date they claim that blizzard announced, even though they havent released one official date yet except for one thing i read off an OFFICIAL blizzard website that said there was going to be a major blizzard game release before the end of 2009 and thats the closest thing to a release date ive seen them announce, in fact, its the only thing ive seen them announce
When Starcraft 2 was just announced by Blizzard, EB games said it was going to be released November 2008: Pre order now. Those sites just publish the best rumor they’ve heard
“Secret” means that it’s not known, just in case someone has ditched first grade.
Beta will be release just after BlizzCon this summer, add 4-6 month for beta, the official release date will be spring 2011.
do you have any credible source that says it will be just after blizzcon 2010 for the beta? they have no reason to wait that long for the beta, and anyway they already gave SC2 beta keys out at blizzcon 08. at blizzcon 09 they didnt give any beta keys (they claimed they wanted to have a choice as to who gets beta keys and who doesn’t)
Based on a quite credible source, I’m expecting the Starcraft 2 release date (not the Beta, but the actual game) to be released Q4 2009. I guess we wait and see.

This better be a F’ing good game for them to take this long. Its been on pre order for almost like 2 years if thats the case.

they use blizzcon to announce what they feel are “big items” (eg. games, movies, etc…) and for a way to give out beta keys to their “most devoted fans” along with allowing many of the blizzard enthusiasts to learn more about their games and upcoming developments. One of the things they kept reminding us is that they “will wait until they feel it is ready to be released” and any dates they give us are not final release dates… they will wait until the game is finished
they may announce a release date at blizzcon but it will not be the biggest event of it. My best guess after attending it last year is that they will announce an expansion to WoW, the WoW movie i have heard a little about, or the “next-gen mmo” that has been expected for a while, and anyway since it is getting so much hype people will expect to much out of it.
I think the guys at blizzard have 2 programmers and 3 designers. There’s no other way a 3D clone of the original could take that long to build… Only me alone could’ve made the 3D part until now. I think this game will be the next hoax after vista… high expectations bullshit software….
Blizzards yet to provide that type of disappointment. I still have my hopes for it. We’ll just have to wait and see, beta is confirmed for this summer but still no exact date yet.

Have you watched any of the battles reports? There is a lot more to sc2 then just a “3d clone.” Lots of new units and abilities. It looks pretty fing cool to me

Ha! It’s 2010 now, the beta hasn’t even started yet. Really, I’m not the most informed SC fan, and I knew it wouldn’t be out before March 2010 when this post was made.
SC2 Beta this month! Check the Blizzard Internet Conference for confirmation. Release will be this year
beta is out, and it is FAR better than i expected so far seems to have less bugs than a lot of games when they were released

Ya, i went to blizzcon 08 so I got a key in the goody bag, it is amazing, currently no mac version, which is disappointing, but no matter the beta is good, I could guess at a launch date in may or june (seems like they are only having issues with the balance, maybe a few bugs but I haven’t found any)
That’s awesome, I’m sitting here with the newest of the new LED 5,000,000:1 contrast I just got in the mail today, and No SC2 beta to test on it, “I’m a very sad panda”. Is the beta non-replicable. I’d pay some cash if I could get it.
first, im jealous and it sucks not to have a key
second, unfortunately the beta is tied into your battle.net account (in more than one spot) so it is nearly impossible to replicate it, only way i know that would work is to buy the WoW Polar bear mount and beta key from the Blizzcon 08 goody bag (probably going for quite a bit right now), or if you can convince someone to lend/give you a battle.net account that has the beta and doesn’t have an authenticator (im pretty sure that would work, and no i am not willing to do this =P, and i have an authenticator anyway)
