Interesting piece of news here for all our retro gaming enthusiasts!! Sure enough you have heard about Innex’s Retro Gen. It is now available for pre-order in the US at $50, and will be able to play all Sega Genesis cartridges and licensed ROMs through an SD card. This is apparently considered as the return of Sega’s Nomad.

The beauty of the Retro Gen, however is, while it continues with the TV out feature of the Nomad, which was a big plus, the new handheld also has an in-built battery that can be recharged through USB and also includes an AV output, which means it can be linked up to any external display. The six-button layout looks really sleek.

You can also play licensed games that have been downloaded and saved to an SD card using a special development cart, which is also compatible with the company’s Sega Genesis clone, Firebox. The only flip side to Innex’s portable, though, is that it doesn’t feature the plug in controller to allow a second player, which Sega Nomad owners enjoyed.

The immediate effect: You will probably see a big rush for those old cartridge games that fantasized a lot many of us, and should see train travel on the rise with fans wanting to enjoy the Retro Gen on the move for longer periods!!! Have fun…
