Sony Changes Terms of Service to Prevent Class Action Lawsuits

Sony has changed up their TOS and user agreement for their online services to stop customers from filing a class action lawsuit against them.

If the customer want to file a class action lawsuit, then they will need Sony to give the go ahead. This change came from the recent cyber attack that caused their online service to go down and private information of their customers stolen. You can find the new changes under “Binding Individual Arbitration”, which states:

“Any Dispute Resolution Proceedings, whether in arbitration or court, will be conducted only on an individual basis and not in a class or representative action or as a named or unnamed member in a class, consolidated, representative or private attorney general action,”

Sony has email PSN users about this and said that

“If you do not agree with the new TOS or Privacy Policy, or if you do not wish to enter into an agreement with [Sony Network Entertainment], you may decline the TOS and Privacy Policy and we will close your account and return your funds.”

Users can still opt out of the clause and still agree to the Terms of Service, but this can only happen if you send a letter to Sony Legal department within 30 days accepting the new TOS agreement.

So basically if you want to sue Sony for anything in the future, you will need Sony permission or they can just settle the matter out of court.
