Earlier on this week, Electronic Art’s life creator Spore surpassed an astonishing 100 Million Creatures, when the game’s Sporepedia registered its one hundred millionth creation. Of course, that number doesn’t reflect those banned creatures of the gigantic worldwide Spore penis monster team (otherwise known as every teen or every pervert with a copy of Spore), but supposedly does include the millions of monsters who look just different enough from the male appendage to avoid too much scrutiny.

According to the die hard Spore fans at Spore Illustrated, the one hundred millionth creation was reached around 5:10pm EST, April 30. While that in itself is incredibly impressive, one can’t help but to imagine how many more Spores’ there would be if Electronic Arts hadn’t been so adamant with the limits imposed on the penis monsters.

1 trillion? A gazillion? meh, most likely loads more.

Despite an incredibly fast start followed by some huge setbacks, Spore did manage to get to its 100 millionth creature. Let us have a gander at exactly how Spore got to this outstanding feat achieved on April 30th, 2009 at about 5:10pm EST.

fuckthing

6/17/2008 – Spore Creature Creator launched allowing players to make creatures before the game releases.

6/18/2008 -Within 22 hours of launching, Spore hit the 100,000 creatures mark, which was a goal set for 3 months later. It didn’t hurt to have celebrities creating creatures.

6/19/2008 – Not all creatures were appreciated. EA starts deleting and threatening to ban penis creature creations – unwanted humor that went viral instantly.

7/15/2008 – 1.8 million species of creatures created in Spore exceeds the number of species ever identified by scientist.

9/4/2008 – Spore releases to Australia and parts of Europe.

9/7/2008 – Spore releases to the U.S. and the rest of the world.

9/8/2008 – Mass disappointment with EA’s digital rights management (DRM) causes ratings carpet-bombing on Amazon and the creation illegal cracks with DRM removed.

9/13/2008 – Thanks to the DRM issues, Spore becomes the most pirated game in history with over 500,000 bittorrent downloads.

9/24/2008 – Spore sells 1 milllion copies and has had 25 million creations uploaded to Sporepedia.

4/8/2009 – Shocking news that Will wright leaves EA and Maxis to start Stupid Fan Club (no joke). Turns out Stupid fan club will be partly owned by EA, so Will Wright hasn’t really parted ways.

4/29/2009 – Spore reaches the 100 million milestone for creations in the game.

In conclusion this was an epic day in the history of online gaming, and of course, Electronic Arts was the one to make it possible.
