The Blockbuster Showdown: Avatar vs. Modern Warfare 2

James Cameron’s Avatar has just hit the $1 billion mark at the box office and here’s a little study on how it fairs out against Modern Warfare 2. Blockbuster film vs. Blockbuster video game.

The most important numbers to be looking at are the profits and you can see both of them came quite close, but the biggest difference is the unit cost. The production cost of avatar was 4x the amount of Modern Warfare 2, it’s just a pity that gamers pays 5x the cost of a movie.

Last thing I couldn’t help noticing is the earnings of World of Warcraft. Blizzard’s whopping $100 million a month is just insane, in addition to the copies and expansions they have already sold. Out of curiosity, where do you think that $100 million is going each month?
