The SNES PC Case Mod
June 14, 2009 by Ruibo
The weekends are usually pretty quiet but here is a cool case mod by quangDX and DuPPs. Using the Super Nintendo and the Acer Aspire One A150, they have created a SNES PC Case Mod. The controller ports have been converted to USB adapters (via a faux controller cable), the cartridge is a CD drive and the cables are plugged in through the back.
There is a webcam and mic as well, a small hole was driving in front of the Super Mario World cartridge for the webcam lens and the microphone is mounted right at the front of the SNES in the center of the front vent. Check out some of the images below.
Information on how the case was created can be found on Asobitech and special thanks to Gamerlimit for the great find.

Nice Work! Like the way you’ve got the CD / DVD Drive in the cartridge…
where did you find the uk snes ive been looking for one forever
does the power switch work ? (not that it changes the amount of coolness)
@super mario – yes the power switch works.
good work,though bulky
@bhgat – why do you say bulky? at least it isn’t the American SNES, now that is bulky.
Love the lego blockoffs on the back.
I want one!
Instead of using a USB mouse, see if you can use the mouse from Mario Paint
awesome idea,
i’ve now ordered a Mario Paint SNES mouse off eBay,
gonna see if I can mod it to work as a USB mouse.
This reminds me of Buffalo Bill, wearing the skin of something he shouldn’t.
Where did the fan go?
there’s two fans,
the one that was built on the motherboard for extracting heat from the CPU.
and we put a 2.5cm fan in the back right of the machine to expel heat from the top of the aaSNES1 out the back vent.
That’s great but…will it still play games?
of course it will,
now that it is a PC,
you can run any game system that has been emulated on it.
The atom 1.6ghz cpu is capable of running most emulators.
I’ve tested it with ZSNES and MAME, both run great.
Hi Quangdx, welcome to GG and thanks for clearing up the questions for our readers. We greatly appreciate your time and efforts you’ve put on the mod and best of luck to your future projects.
Nice to see someone also put a pc into an SNES.
I am (afaik) the first person who ever fitted both a cdrom drive and an HDD into an SNES. Though I decided not to put the cd drive into the cartridge as it would stick out more than it would originally (like in your snes version).
Though congrats to you for this piece of work. I know how hard it is to do such a mod. I especially like the lights beneath the four snes dots logo.
BTW: I also created a USB-Mouse out of an ordinary mariopaint mouse. I just didn’t upload the picture to my website yet.
Anyhow, here’s a link to my website. You can find my SNESPC there. http://flobo2000.fl.funpic.de
Again congrats on a nice project done
Ahaha I love the fax machine
Great job man. (Y)
purchase the aaSNES1 – SNES PC case mod. Bid on it at eBay – http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290325087526
But can it run crysis?
It’s an 1.6Ghz Atom with Intel GMA500,
don’t think it will run crysis.
The other question is,
will it blend?
World Economical Crysis. Yes It Can.
Hi,
we are an eventagency from Germany, Bochum. Since 2002 we organize the DCMM (German Casemod Championsship). After seven years of amazing creations, we want to internationalize the event. For this reason we are searching new modder out of your country. The SNES PC Case Mod is a great idea. It would be, if you could take part on this event.Further information about the facts of this event, you’ll find at http://www.dcmm.de.
Best regards, Jan
