Ubisoft DRM Stops Australian Gamers Playing Settlers 7, Again!

More trouble are arising from Ubisoft’s ‘always connected to an internet connection’ DRM fiasco (remember Assassin’s Creed 2). This time around it completely prevent gamers playing Settlers 7 and as always even when it detect the internet connection.

It is reported that the game confirms that there is an internet connection, but it will have an error “server not available” when trying to play the game.

We talking about Ubisoft’s ‘DRM’ here, which means this problem is not just for multiplayer mode only, but it also goes for the single-player campaign. Some gamers even reported crashes of the game and even the computer itself.

The problem arises in random places, but seem to be concentrated mostly in the Australian area. Ubisoft so far has this response to an angry Australian mob:

“Apparently this problem is especially common in Australia – we will try to get to the bottom of this.”

This actually started on last Friday and the game was released last Thursday, while it still has this problem going on all the way today. Now, now I am sure Ubisoft will send more of their old games to all these unhappy gamers that bought Settlers 7.

You can check out their forum here for a so call fixe and try your luck.

Isn’t it exciting though? It is like gambling when you buy Ubisoft games.

For many it feels like the same gamble with EA/DICE games. Although it is not a DRM issue but more like EA deciding it is OK to release a game that should probably still have been in a beta stage.

  2. Markk says:

It's a shame this is how companies treat their customers. Not so hard to see why piracy becomes a legitimate outgrowth of frustration with such lowly treatment

  3. Occas says:

You could at least show the correct game cover. Fail.

  4. Anon says:

Did they not test it in Australia prior to the official release? Or maybe they just never had server problems

  5. Mia says:

If you buy a Ubisoft product you get exactly what you deserve and if you are unaware of how restrictive and faulty the DRM is then it's your fault for being a lazy consumer.

  6. PJ says:

Lazy consumer? I walked into a shop, saw a computer game and my computer could match all of the specifications on the cover. I bought it. As a consumer, I have a right to enjoy the benefits of use of the product that I buy.

I can't play this game. I get the Server Not Available message.

I'll be returning this game to the place of purchase and they can take it up with Ubisoft.

I will, however, take note of Ubisoft's pathetic efforts and never, ever purchase a product from them, or organisations associated with Ubisoft ever again.

  7. Robbie says:

Well, yet again UBISoft have #failed again, REQUIRED update stops the servers from being able to be connected to…

Seems this is going to be ongoing, and will probibly restrict customers in their gaming until they take out this DRM system.

  8. vaughan says:

    OK I FOUND THE FIX

    LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY

there where the White blan box is put your login name you use to login the game with. Thats what i did anyway. I confim it works very very well this game is awsome. DRM problem FIXED

Go to the actual settlers 7 website.

Login in. Then to the left of the columm underneath Home on the navigation you see News then " MY REALM " click that, ok so you notice for profile name it has nothin or n/a even though you created a ubi account to play. It doesnt actually put that to your profile on there website. So by doin this manually like explained it allows you then to play.

    So conclusion

    Go to website login

    go to My realms

Profile name – make your account login name

save that start the game and Bang your playing like me no faults. Any questions feel free to email me directly sneakytaipan@gmail.com

UPDATE: UBISOFT Australia have decided to recall the Settlers 7 product due to the unusually high problems that the NZ and AUS players have been having.

Contact your Game reseller and ask for details.

I really hate when people say they will boycott a company for this or that infraction.

    -however.

I WILL boycott Ubisoft products. I mean, really… they just go too far. I really wanted Assassin's Creed 2, but when I read you had to be online all the time, WFT?!

It's their game, their rules, they can make it how they want. But my money is spent on my rules. I miss out of Ubisoft games. They can miss my money. Good trade, I think.

  13. Mark says:

Bourght the game from EB, Ive installed the game was told to put product key in, after typing product key was told this number is already in use and cannot play game, Reinstalled game now cannot find server NOT HAPPY JAN

  14. Calvin says:

This game is nice, when you can actually manage to login to their servers. It is horrendous how you can not even play single player mode which, logically, should not require an internet connection. I do not recommend purchasing this game solely because of this; because when you have time to play it, you can't – but when you don't have a lot of time to play, you can! Isn't that great!?

Out of 10 stars, I give it 1 for great content and graphics; but -9 points because you can't ever play it when you want to play it!
