Unreal Engine 4.0 is about 80% Complete

Epic boss Mark Rein had an interview with VG247 at Develop in Brighton, England to chat about Unreal Engine, the engine used by so many games. Talking to Mark Rein about their next Unreal Engine he said “I just saw some incredible new stuff that we’re either later this year or next year for new engine features and I think they’re really going to blow people away.”
Unreal Engine 3.0 is the latest version of the engine, and it’s been used by companies like Atari, Activision, Capcom, Disney, Konami, Koei, 2K Games, Midway Games, THQ, Ubisoft, Sega, Sony, Electronic Arts, Square Enix, and 3D Realms among others. This Engine is also behind games like Bioshock 1 and 2, Mass effect 1 and 2, Gears of War 1 and 2 and the list could grow very, very long. According to Mark Rein if they had an engine incremental numeration system, “we’d be at about 3.8 right now.” , which means that the engine is now at 80% complete and so, we expect it to hit the market ASAP to check what the new engine can do, because a new Unreal Engine means a new generation of games.
Talking about new generation, Project Natal comes into the picture. According to Mark Rein in another interview with Oxm, Project Natal Demos shown at E3 were not made from scratch, they used Unreal Engine 3.0. So, if we make a short calculation of gossip, Unreal 4.0 at 80% and Project natal set for next year, we get that this new Unreal Engine which is due to “blow people away” may be designed to fit Project Natal’s needs. If so, the combination Project Natal hardware technology and Unreal Engine 4.0 software technology could lead in a really explosive cocktail for next generation games.
